Ather Zia is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Gender studies in University of Northern Colorado. Ather Zia promotes Islamic supremacy in Kashmir and wants freedom from India. She holds a Masters degrees form University of Kashmir and has previously worked as a journalist for BBC World Service. She is founder editor of Kashmir Lit and co-founder of Critical Kashmir Studies Collective, an interdisciplinary network of ‘scholars’ working on the Kashmir region. She is also a Stand With Kashmir “expert” and co-founder. Stand With Kashmir is a free Kashmir organisation that supports violent Islamists and terrorists.
Ather Zia supports terrorists and terrorism. In her social media posts she calls terrorists Sabzar Ahmed, Burhan Wani, Riyaz Naikoo, Maqbool Bhat, Afzal Guru as martyrs. She supports Yasin Malik who shot dead four Indian Air Force officers in 1990 and has confessed on camera. She calls Indian army as ‘occupiers’ and is against the re-settling of Hindus in Kashmir. She coaxes people to call them ‘colonisers’, she supports calling Indian army & Indian government as ‘Brahminical occupation’, lies about sexual assault on Kashmiri women, fear-mongers that Muslims will be marginalised by Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Kashmir Lit is a website that legitimises, justifies and humanises terrorists from Kashmir. The platform provides space for terrorists, their sympathisers and cheerleaders to make their cause legitimate. It has articles written by slain terrorist Manan Wani, jailed terrorist, Asiya Andrabi, eulogizes terrorists Sabzar Ahmed, Ashfaq Majeed Wani, and calls Hindu pilgrimage to be de-militarised. In an article about the resistance of Kashmiri women to Indian occupation Zia describes Andrabi as an iconic figure of women’s resistance. Asiya Andrabi is a Kashmiri separatist and founding leader of Dukhtaran-e-Millat. Dukhtaran-e-Millat is a network of women jihadis. Zia also mourned the death of Hizbul terrorist Riyaz Naikoo, referring to him as a martyr, and declaring: “death to Indian occupation!”
