Deepa Iyer belongs to an Iyer-Brahmin family but her name is misleading. Deepa is an Open Society Fellowship winner in 2017 and an Islamist sympathiser. Formerly the Executive Director of South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT), Deepa has been a ‘civil and immigrant right’s’ advocate for 15 years. She has opposed the introduction of CAA and has led many campaigns in the US against CAA. Deepa also supports legislation in local US city Councils against CAA and India. She whole-heartedly supports US Congressmen and Congresswomen who oppose India’s CAA.
Deepa also supports self-determination for Kashmir and Kashmiris and has spoken out numerous times against fake human rights violations of Indian Army in Kashmir. She counts Rashida Talib, Linda Sarsour and Ilhan Omar as her good friends. Deepa is also deeply inspired by the works of another Hindu hater and break-India member, Arundhati Roy.
Deepa refuses to use Hindu or India by name in her twitter posts and frequently resorts to clubbing it as “South Asia”. She equates Hindutva with terrorism and supports Hindufascism but has never spoken against Islamic terrorism. Deepa had mobilised people to conduct protests against India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Houston, Texas in 2019. She has also cast aspersions on Tulsi Gabbard calling her “not a friend to progressive South Asians or Hindus”. She also spoke against the World Hindu Congress Conference in 2018 and had called it’s agenda ‘an alarm for Hindus and non-Hindus alike’.
