Farhana Sultana

Hindu hater and Islamic supremacist Farhana Sultana is a Bangladeshi-origin professor of Geography at Syracuse University and a visiting faculty at the Independent University of Bangladesh. According to her website, she is also the Research Director for Environmental Collaboration and Conflicts in the Program for the Advancement of Research on Conflict and Collaboration (PARCC) at the Maxwell School. Syracuse University was a participant in the 2021 anti-Hindu conference Dismantling Global Hindutva.

Farhana Sultana has extreme hatred for India and Hindus. Just like any Islamic supremacist across the globe, Farhana Sultana is also an anti-Semite. After the ouster of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, violence erupted against Hindus who were the prime target for being non-Muslims in a majority Muslim country. Farhana Sultana along with other Bangladesh fascists tried to white-wash the violence against Hindus calling it “massive disinformation propaganda and lies being spread by Indians”. She also called Sheikh Hasina an “Indian-backed dictator”.

In an article for The Diplomat, Bangladesh’s New Democracy Under Threat From Flood of Misinformation, Farhana Sultana said Hindus of India are putting out “doctored images/videos” to exaggerate and distort the situation of BD. She writes that the attacks on Hindus while tragic were because “many of those targeted were affiliated with Hasina’s now-disgraced Awami League party, suggesting a political, not communal, motive.” She further writes, “The two main sources of this misinformation campaign are global Hindutva forces linked to India, and Awami League loyalists both outside and inside Bangladesh.”

In August 2024, Farhana Sultana claimed India caused “artificial” flooding purposefully and as political retaliation against Bangladesh on Germany’s government-funded state broadcaster DW TV. Interestingly, DW TV’s website published an article debunking the viral claim that India caused “artificial” flooding in Bangladesh. [Readers please note DW TV is an anti-India media house.] Due to the viral claims from Bangladeshis that the Indian government purposely released waters from the Gumti River in Tripura, the Government of India had to release a statement that these claims were false and that the flooding in Bangladesh was due to excessive rainfall.

When we pointed out how a Bangladeshi professor in a position of power in an American university is openly lying and spreading propaganda against India, Farhana Sultana blocked our handle on X. She said we were inciting violence against her and asked others to report our account. She even called DW TV’s report a “fake” report done by Indians. Derek Grossman, an India hater himself posted DW TV’s report calling it a “Good factual debunking of the conspiracy theory”.

In December 2024, while posting a celebratory message for Bangladesh’s 54th Independence Day, Farhana Sultana wiped out India’s role in the 1971 war called it a war Bangladeshi fought for 9 months to liberate themselves and saying that India was only trying to colonise Bangladesh. When Indians posted celebratory messages for Vijay Diwas, India’s victory over Pakistan, as Pakistan surrendered to the Indian army which led to Bangladesh’s independence, Farhana Sultana called it an “arrogant and bigoted discourse”. She went on to further say that India didn’t give independence to Bangladesh and India entered the war at the 11th hour to defeat arch-nemesis Pakistan, in a strategic move to make Bangladesh India’s colony. She ended the post by saying, “No one ‘gave us’ independence”.

Farhana Sultana when called to condemn the genocidal speeches against Hindus from Imams in Bangladesh, said “Indian Brahmins persecute other Hindus within India” even though Brahmins are not in positions of power in India, face extreme discrimination and are just 3% of India’s population.

Farhana Sultana time and again called Hinduphobia as fake and spurious and promotes pro-Khalistan accounts.

Farhana Sultana who portrays herself as a “scholar” uses extreme Hinduphobic slurs of “cow urine”, “cow dung”, “poopjeets” and “pajeets” for any Hindu who speaks up against hatred and bigotry from Islamist-Leftist-White-supremacist X accounts. Any Hindu who is pro-India, pro-BJP, and/or pro-Hindu is slandered by her petty name-calling and snide remarks.

While Farhana Sultana blames India for the happenings in Bangladesh, she has indulged in blatant disinformation, propaganda and lies. In September 2024, Farhana Sultana shared an anti-Israel propaganda account that accused an Israeli soldier of shooting a girl 10 times and leaving her to die while sipping coffee. A Community Note on the post was added. It brought out the information that the girl tried to stab an Israeli soldier and was killed in retaliatory fire.

In the same month of September, Farhana Sultana also shared another Islamic propaganda post that blamed Indian soldiers for committing genocide in Gaza as part of the Israeli Army. This propaganda was started by a Muslim Professor of Law from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr.Khaled Abou el-Fadl.

Dr. Khaled Abou el-Fadl blamed Indian Hindu nationalists for volunteering to fight in Israeli Army because they enjoy killing Muslims.

Farhana Sultana did not fact-check this lie but instead shared the post and the article with her 36,000 followers saying it is “quite disturbing but unsurprising given Indian regime’s is support to Isntreal.”

In March 2025, Farhana Sultana re-posted a post by an Islamic supremacist handle that blamed Hindus and Indian PM Modi for riots in Gujarat in 2002. The handle made several unfounded accusations against Hindus, yet Farhana Sultana re-posted the content without bothering to verify the facts.

Farhana Sultana spreading blatant lies and misinformation

Farhana Sultana just like any other garden variety Islamic supremacist thinks Indian government support for anti-terrorism is support to Zionism even though the government of India has maintained its 2-state solution for Israel and Palestine and voted against Israel in various United Nations resolutions such as the resolution calling for Israel to end its occupation in Palestine, or on the resolution calling for immediate ceasefire in Gaza, or UN resolution against Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory, or voted in favour of a resolution for UN membership for Palestine.

Below are some of Farhana Sultana’s post from the social media platform X (formerly twitter). On 3rd April 2025 Farhana Sultana locked her X account after a spat with a twitter user who accused her of defamation and slander.
