Sharjeel Usmani is a radical Islamist and journalist working with Newslaundry, Firstpost and DailyO. He is an alumni of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and son of former AMU’s Department of Geography’s Assistant Professor Tariq Usmani and belongs to Fraternity Movement of India. He was arrested for his role in anti-Hindu Delhi riots for including rioting, rioting while armed with a deadly weapon, unlawful assembly, inciting riots and carrying arms in a procession, attempt to murder, making criminal intimidation among others. He led the anti-CAA rally inside AMU where the police have evidence of students stone-pelting and rioting. He has been vocal critic for release of other jailed radical Islamists Sharjeel Imam, Safoor Zargar, Umar Khalid, Meeran Haider, and others.
Sharjeel Usmani has openly declared his support for another radical Islamist, Sharjeel Imam, who has been arrested under charges of sedition for a speech made to cut-off North-East from rest of India. He also subscribes to Sharjeel Imam’s radical Islamic ideology. He has mis-lead the world on what Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) stands for despite it having no impact on Indian citizens. He fear-mongered, and lied while praising efforts of radical Islamist in India. He called the man brandishing a gun at the police during a riots, “a hero” and weaved a fake story to absolve the person’s crime.
He along with fellow radical Islamists wanted to add English sub-titles to ‘hate-crimes’ against Muslims in a bid to smear India’s and Hindus’ image internationally while ignoring the crimes of Muslims against Hindu majority. Sharjeel also wanted to use Indian Muslims as the fifth column to undermine India’s interest abroad. Earlier in the year a number of radical Muslims targeted Hindus is Gulf countries thereby endangering their lives and livelihood. He has extended his support to terrorists like Afzal Guru, Parliament attack mastermind and Yakub Memon, terrorist convicted for 1993 Bombay bomb blast that killed 257 Indians. Sharjeel also lied and misled public when a female jounralist of The Wire and The Print committed suicide. He attributed the suicide to harassment by Hindus for wearing hijab, but the truth was she was harassed by a politician of Samajwadi Party, Shamin Noamani. He called 2008 Batla House encounter as a ‘cold-blooded encounter of innocent Muslim youth by Indian state’. Terrorists killed in Batla house encounter were alumni of Jamia Milia Islamia and had links to banned terror outfit Indian Mujahideen. Delhi police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was martyred in the encounter. Sharjeel doesn’t believe in India as one nation and it was due to Brahmins that today India as a single country exists. He doesn’t believe in sacrificing one’s life for India as it’s a land of Brahmins and further goes on to ask for a separate nation for Muslims.
He has multiple cases against him and was arrested for instigating violence during AMU anti-CAA protests but was given bail due to his ‘good academic record’ by Indian courts. Fraternity Movement demanded cases against Usmani be revoked stating “these perpetual hate campaigns are intended to languish the vocal Muslim youth in jail permanently.”
Sharjeel Usmani 2021 in Elgar Parishad, Pune, has said “Hindus society is rotten to the core.” He further states “Hindus got to temples, do puja and come out and kill Muslims”. Bhartiya Janta Yuva Morcha registered a case against Usmani for defaming Hindu community. He is currently out on bail.
Immediately after 2021 February anti-Hindu riots of Delhi, Hindus for Human Rights gave platform to Usmani where he states “India is heading towards genocide of [Muslims]” and that “international community has to intervene”.
Usmani changed his twitter display picture to Ali Musaliyar, butcher of Hindus during 1921 Moplah genocide of Hindus in Kerala.
