Dr. Subir Sinha is currently a Reader in School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, UK. He did his bachelors from Delhi University in history and his PhD in Political Science from Northwestern University, USA. He belongs to the ultra-radical leftist side and has utter contempt for Hindus and India. According to Prof.Sinha Hindutva is a political ideology of India’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is different from Hinduism.
In June 2023, SOAS announced an “independent” enquiry into September 2022 anti-Hindu Leicester violence. The enquiry panel will be headed by Juan E. Méndez former UN former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture and human rights lawyer Juan E. Méndez. Other members are Subir Sinha, Chetan Bhatt, Schona Jolly KC, and Suresh Grover. They are expected to present their report in 2024. Hindus groups raised concerns of partiality given the anti-Hindu slant of all members of the panel.
The SOAS Commission website states “The Commission is supported by the Open Society Foundations through a grant made to the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London (SOAS). The Open Society Foundations has no influence over the methods of working, conduct, or findings of the Commission.”
In 2014, Dr.Subir Sinha wrote for a web portal on PM Modi’s election “Modi’s BJP in massive election win – and that threatens to be a disaster for India” straight up lied that Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal instigated the 2002 Godhra riots. What Subir Sinha fails to mention to the reader that Supreme Court of India convicted Muslims in Godhra for burning a train, conspiracy and murder for killing 56 innocent Hindu men, women and children. In the same piece, Sinha personally attacks PM Modi “……His commitment to patriarchy are evident both in his abandonment of his wife without, as far as we know, any maintenance or other rights,….”.
In 2015 writing for SOAS South Asian Notes on “The Futures of India’s Past” Dr.Subir Sinha ridicules ancient Indian epics – “Indian epics, which have a massive readership in an age of undiminished, even increasing religiosity, have more science fiction-like elements than any other major religions of the world, and were made popular as television shows through the past two decades.” Sr. Sinha is asserting to the telecast of Ramayana and Mahabharata which had a massive viewership and continues to have massive viewership decades later. He furhter says that the “narrative of victimhood and of not being given due recognition by the world” underpins the Hindutva ideology.
Writing on Indian government’s abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A from Kashmir, Dr.Subir Sinha writing for The Kochi Post “Kashmir: A Hindutva Love Story” said “In the Hindutva universe, the Kashmiri Muslim was never an equal, never a citizen, but a perfidious traitor who did not deserve any rights let alone love. The “Kashmiri Muslim” was for them a surrogate for Pakistan, and for terrorism in general, the thin end of the wedge in the imagined conspiracy in which they were the agents of Islamic State, or lesser Pakistan-funded terror outfits.” He completely ignores Kashmiri leaders ideological and financial support from Pakistan, Hindu genocide of 19th January 1990, Pakistan-sponsored terrorism producing terrorists like Burhan Wani, Riyaz Naikoo, Sabzar Ahmed, Lakshar-e-Tayabba, Hizbul Mujhadeen, Jaish-e-Mohammed, terror attacks on Amarnath yatris, Pulwama and Uri.
Dr.Subir Sinha wrote an article on “‘Strong leaders’, authoritarian populism and Indian developmentalism: The Modi moment in historical context” where he equates PM Modi’s developmental work to rising of Hindu majoritarianism. He further writes that PM Modi’s second term in 2019 is seeing the implementation of core Hindutva – a authoritarian one, moving away from secularism to the “ones with Hindus as primary citizens and Muslims as secondary citizens with fewer rights.”
Dr. Subir Sinha signed a statement by global academics on the occasion of Human Rights Day calling for release of all those involved in rioting, instigation and conspiracy to riot in Delhi 2020 during the anti-CAA protests in New Delhi. The statement also called for repealing India’s anti-terrorism act, the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) . The statement also said the revocation of Article 370 and 35 A from “Muslim-majority” Jammu and Kashmir was undemocratic.
Dr. Subir Sinha was also one of the 600 academics who endorsed ‘Dismantling Global Hindutva’ Conference in 2021 as noted by a Reddit post.
While talking to Ibrar Mohammed on Leicester violence. Dr.Subir Sinha says “that it could be possible that the people who raised slogans could be recent immigrants from India who have come to study in the universities in and around Leicester.” Sinha completely ignores the instigation and intimidation of Islamists like Majid Freeman, Mohammed Hijab, Ali Dawah, Shakeel Afsar and leftist groups like South Asia Solidarity Group (SASG) which have indirect links to the Iranian regime. Nor does Dr.Sinha say that a temple flag was desecrated and burned.
In 2022, Subir Sinha wrote “Modi’s ‘people’ and populism’s imagined communities” where he ridicules the millions of Hindus slaughtered, raped and forcibly converted by Islamic invaders as “…meme of a ‘Hindu holocaust’…. “. The entire piece is riddled with claims not backed up by data or evidence, complete lies and utter contempt for Hindus.
In an interview with AsianLite.com, Subir Sinha spoke supporting India’s Congress Party. To a question by the interviewer on Hindutva and Hinduism being different, Sinha says “Look at Rajasthan, which has been an important site for Hindutva violence against Muslims….Can it advance a platform of political equality between communities, justice for all the victims of Hindutva violence, and representation to those excluded and violated by Hindutva?” Further accusing Congress of ‘soft-Hindutva’, Sinha says “The Congress cannot just come up with a readymade ‘inclusive secularism’. This concept will have to come from a joint struggle, primarily of those under assault, and then in conversation with a range of other political parties and non-party political formations.” Speaking of Rahul Gandhi, Sinha says “Rahul Gandhi did not ‘dress’ like Gandhi, but the idea of simplicity did come across in his sartorial choices. His padyatra idiom, open mingling with masses of people who joined the yatra, his photographs with people identifiably from different religious communities, all invoked Gandhi.” He further says, BJP is doing well because ” vast financial resources, near complete control of the media, and compliance of social media firms. Besides, it seems to have near complete control over key institutions, such as the Central Election Commission, police forces, bureaucracy etc.”
In a January 2023 article on the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi for the newsportal TheConversation.com, Dr.Sinha says “the project of creating a constitutional Hindu state and institutionalising its version of Hindu culture and social order in contradiction to Gandhi’s vision of a multi-faith nation.” He further goes on to says “Under Modi’s modernisation fetish, major Gandhian ashrams, like Sabarmati, have been given such a tourist-friendly facelift, seemingly stripped of all historical gravitas.”
In his piece Indian Abroad: Home And Homesickness criticised the Indian diaspora in the United States, Dr.Subir Sinha wrote of BJP “For them, India-that-is-Bharat is a ‘civilisational’ entity, not a nation. They would like the diaspora to line up behind the Hindutva agenda, to participate in the cultural ritualism, social traditionalism and the political campaign to create a Hindu rashtra.”
Talking to Australia’s ABC on the Removal of evolution and periodic table from Indian textbooks sparks outrage, Dr. Subir Sinha misinformed ABC listeners on the so-called remvoal of evolution and periodic table from Indian textbooks. NCERT (National Council for Education and Research) clarified in their X post that the two contents were not removed but will be introduced in the class of 11th instead of middle school. He again criticised the “superiority of Hindu knowledge” for the changes brought in by NCERT.
Dr. Subir Sinha, like other leftist-Islamist, often compares Hindus with Jews, calling Hindus as Hindutva and Jews as Zionists. He even went as far to call Yoga as “identified with Hindutva”. Dr.Sinha is very fond of comparing Hindus to the Nazis. In a twitter post Dr.Sinha wrote “India is the most advance Nazi society in the world right now.”
